Congratulations to Elberton City Clerk and HR Director Cindy Churney on an exceptional career spanning more than 39 years! On Monday, October 5, GMA Member Services Consultant Sherri Bailey presented Cindy with the GMA Lifetime Service Award during her final council meeting before retiring this month. The award recognizes those who retire after 35 or more years in local government, a milestone Cindy surpassed by a wide margin.Cindy began her career with the City of Elberton in 1987 as a Personnel Clerk and, in 2001, was promoted to City Clerk and Human Resources Director. Her commitment to the community extended well beyond City Hall, as she also supported the Sister City exchange program, the Downtown Development Authority, Leadership Elberton, and the Elbert Theatre. The Georgia Municipal Clerks Association (GMCA) also honored Cindy with a certificate of recognition. GMCA Managing Director Pam Helton noted that Cindy was always glad to mentor new clerks and lend a hand to her fellow clerks whenever she could. Thank you, Cindy, for nearly four decades of dedicated service to Elberton and to the clerks of Georgia!
